SOAPSTONE Analysis
David Brooks wrote a column about eight or nine months ago called " What Our Words Tell Us" . He writes about a poll that was generated about two years ago and comes to certain realizations about society and their word usage. This is a huge problem. The world is a selfish place. He states in the article repeatedly that words that are individualistic have increased over the years. Brooks is talking to anyone and everyone, and the tone is pretty strait forward. He seems to feel very strongly about what he's saying and it is as if, he is almost upset about it. This is happening everywhere, everyday. I'm sure you've noticed; because I have. I don't believe Brooks expects someone to form a revolution about this situation; he just wants people to know that it is better to focus on on other things, rather than "me time" and "I'm just doing me."
